Why it’s safe to share your church space

Every church is different, so each building’s level of safety needs depends on the church’s size and shape.

For example, some churches may be equipped with facilities like gyms, classrooms, or auditoriums that make great spaces for work, small events, or classes. Does your church have a large kitchen? There are dozens of bakers, restaurants, small business owners that could use a spacious kitchen. Churches are full of extraordinary spaces that allow groups to maintain a safe six-foot distance between them easily.

One of the Key steps to sharing your church space is communication. When visitors, clients, members, and admins communicate, actions can quickly be administered to prevent the virus’s spread. It is essential to have a plan for your church to keep areas safe and sanitized.

Below is a quick list of some guild lines we adapted from the CDC to, so you can quickly go back and reference and get your church space in top shape to share once more.

How to do it

Sharing your church space safely is entirely dependent on how you implement safety measures. By following these four guidelines, you ensure the safety of yourself, your employees, your congregation, and anyone who enters your space. It will take work and communication to maintain these standards consistently, but doing so, will help keep your church space open and the center of the community.

  • Routine disinfection:

Your church space should be disinfected with the proper materials every day, especially shared surfaces like doorknobs, bathrooms, etc. For the best protection, it is vital to keep track verify how often these practices are done.

  • Avoid sharing anything unnecessary, like pens, computers, etc.
  • Create health etiquette and guidelines for your church space
  • Masks are encouraged everywhere and mandatory in many places, and we recommend using them depending on your location, air ventilation, and maintainable distance. Outdoor spaces may be better for non-mask use.
  • Of course, we recommend common standard practices of washing hands, using hand sanitizer, and keeping six feet of distance between other individuals mandatory.
  • Create an environment for open communication
  • If someone (employee, visitor, whomever) feels unwell or has been exposed, they need to feel safe enough to express this without fear or burden.
  • If someone doesn’t understand these guidelines, try to communicate that everyone is doing their best to keep this virus under control. Together, we can keep helping our communities by sharing and trusting existing safety measures.

Of course, you can take more safety actions, but this quick list can help keep your space safe, so you can share your church space and keep your doors open.
